Happy birthday to Stanley Kubrick, one of the most iconic directors/filmmakers, particularly known for the films, "The Shining" & "A Clockwork Orange" is remembered today for continuously having a huge impact on Hip-Hop. Not only does he influence Hip-Hop artists, but his influence was also felt all throughout a broad spectrum of artists such as filmmakers, musicians, video games, and more!

Here is some artist who have gathered inspiration from Stanley:

1. Frank Ocean

In Frank Ocean's free hit single, Novacane, Frank mentions Eyes Wide Shut, another well-known mystery film by Kubrick about a secret underground society for sexual encounters.

"I'm feelin' like Stanley Kubrick, this is some visionary shit, been tryna film pleasure with my eyes wide shut"

3. Kanye West

Kanye West's album and his film, Jesus Is King, took huge inspirations from Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Kanye's film gave the same eery experience as Kubrick's film, both cinematically and visually.

Another instance of Kanye and Kubrick is when he suggested the tv show instructor for Keeping Up With The

Kardashians to change their filming style.

"They’re shooting my wife’s show, and I keep on, like,

asking them to shoot it like it’s Stanley Kubrick”

4. Lupe Fiasco

Lupe Fiasco released a track on Soundcloud called, "Super Cold" featuring Talib Kweli, mentions one of the most famous films by Kubrick, The Shining, at the beginning of his verse:

"Better dress warm or you might end up like The Shining, not that boy or that lady, but that n**** gone crazy"

5. Travis Scott

In Travis Scott's music video for Mamacita, "Travis Scott is tied to a large black structure resembling the mysterious Monolith that appears four times in Kubrick’s film" (DJBooth), from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

6. Flatbush Zombies

This one is the most interesting...

Flatbush Zombies curated a whole album to play alongside the same film Kanye West and Travis Scott took inspirations from, 2001: A Space Odyssey, as an homage to the film and the filmmaker himself, Stanley Kubrick.
